Manuel Pellegrini

Regular readers of this site are well aware that I’m not overly enamored with the job Pellegrini is doing for Manchester City. Still, I think he could be a great fit for Chelsea’s current needs if he were to become available at the same time as the defending champions’ opening.

Pellegrini’s greatest strength as a manager is his ability to meld a dressing room of huge egos into a cohesive unit. It’s what he did best at City to help them win a Premier League title and it’s exactly what Chelsea need at the moment.

Chelsea didn’t forget how to play football in the span of one off-season, but their players sure look as they have. Their issues are much more mental than physical and that’s just the sort of thing Pellegrini is equipped to address.

His personality is almost polar opposite to Mourinho’s which would make him a huge hit with Chelsea’s players and fans. Let’s be honest, Chelsea supporters who approve of Mourinho do so because of his ability to get results on the pitch. They ignore his arrogant personality in the process. Pellegrini is a much easier man to like. That would be refreshing for Chelsea’s entire organization after a few seasons of Mourinho reign.

Pellegrini may not be available at the same time as the Chelsea opening but if he his, he’s absolutely deserving of a look. His ability to get along with a diverse group of players might be the perfect solution for Chelsea’s current woes.
