Diego Simeone

This potential candidate might be out of even Chelsea’s reach, but if they could pull in Diego Simeone they’d certainly need to give him serious consideration.

What he’s done at Atletico Madrid has been sensational. He’s managed to break the stronghold of Real Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga and he’s done so at a club that isn’t among the richest in the world. He may be the manager who’s doing the best job at out-performing his club’s resources in the world at the moment.

Don’t forget his ties to Diego Costa as an interesting storyline in this potential move as well. Costa, of course, came to Chelsea from Atletico where he was managed by Simeone. To be more specific, it’s under Simeone’s tutelage that Costa became a world-class striker. Certainly the ability to effectively manage the enigmatic striker wouldn’t hurt the resume of a potential Chelsea manager.

Simeone’s style and personality would seem to be a good fit for Chelsea as well. He is a fiery individual who doesn’t back down from any sort of challenge and that’d bit Chelsea’s identity perfectly. They are a club that isn’t blessed with rich tradition so they need a manager who has a little more of a modern edge to him. Is there any manager with more edge than Simeone?

In the end, most believe he’ll stick with Atletico for a few more years, but he’d be worth a Chelsea phone call. After all, they’ve got the cash to throw around to turn any potential manager’s head.
