3. Manchester City

I realize the suggestion that Mourinho could immediately take over another Premier League club after his disastrous end at Chelsea might seem absurd at first, but hear me out. He might be the perfect man to follow-up for Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City.

Think about it, what’s your biggest complaint with City at the moment? It has to be their failure to focus their prodigious talent on the task at hand game-in and game-out. Most would attribute that failing to the manager. Pellegrini has a wonderful way about him with his players, but it’s fair to wonder if he’s too much of a player’s manager to get the most out of his current squad. Perhaps they’ve inadvertently tuned him out due to his friendly nature.

Mourinho has never been accused of being too friendly with his players. His arrival at City would immediately get the attention of the entire roster. Yes, it would be a huge gamble on the part of the Citizens because the dressing room could outright revolt against Mourinho, but if they didn’t, he might be able to squeeze every ounce of talent out of their squad for a finite period of time. It might be enough time to win a Premier League and perhaps a Champions League title as well.

I know that it sounds a little crazy, but if I were in charge of City I’d at least broach the idea of Mourinho to a player or two on the roster. If they could embrace him and his dogma, it might lead to a rush of silverware for everyone at the club.
