Cesar Azpilicueta- Chelsea

If Mourinho makes the monumental switch this is the one other Chelsea player that I think he’d move for immediately. United has struggled with its right back play with Matteo Darmian at the helm and Jose would see Azpilicueta as an immediate upgrade.

Ironically, some of the struggles Azpilicueta had at Chelsea were caused by Mourinho playing him out of position out of necessity as a left back. He’d actually fit better in the United side than he ever did under Mourinho at Chelsea. It would allow him to move back to his natural position and to use his preferred foot.

Even despite being played out of position frequently, it’s clear that Azpilicueta still holds Mourinho in high regard. After all, he sent a very complimentary public message to his old manager after receiving news of his firing. Those were not the words of a player who participated in the widely reported backstabbing of his manager. It’s clear the two got along well and would be open to working with one another again.

Just as the case with Willian, my only concern with this transfer would be Chelsea’s willingness to do any sort of business with Manchester United. I could see some hard negotiating, but I think that ultimately money would talk in this scenario.
