Reports have surfaced that Cesc Fabregas is agitating for a move away from Chelsea

Evidently Chelsea fans aren’t the only people upset that manager Jose Mourinho was axed by the club. Reports are that midfielder Cesc Fabregas is so affected by Mourinho’s departure that he wants a move away. Could Arsenal swoop in to bring the midfielder back in a shocking return?

This move might actually makes sense for everyone involved. If Fabregas isn’t happy at Chelsea then they should do everything they can to move him while his transfer market value is still high. All an unhappy Fabregas will do is make Guus Hiddink’s job harder in the interim and that doesn’t benefit Chelsea in the slightest. Why not offer him to Arsenal in a romantic return move?

Arsenal could certainly use some help in the midfield. They’ve been riddled with injuries to Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin and others so they could certainly use the additional cover. Fabregas may not be the player he used to be, but he’s still got the guile and moxie to help out a tittle contending team in a pinch.

There’s even the chance that reuniting with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger might somehow reignite Fabregas’ career. After all, he did play some of the best football of his career under Wenger in his earlier run with Arsenal. The type of play that Wenger instills in his North London club is also a perfect fit for Fabregas.

It would allow the Spanish midfielder to sit deep and attempt to control the game with his passing. He gets in trouble these days when he’s asked to play too far forward and create on his own. Perhaps if he’s afforded the luxury of sitting deep and spraying balls out to Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and company he can regain some of his lost form. He’s unlikely to ever be the player he was for Barcelona again, but he could improve on his barely average form of this season.

Arsenal could also benefit from adding a player of Fabregas’ experience as they push for a Premier League title. Their fixtures are only going to become more tense as the year moves on and having a cool head in the defensive midfield could be a huge boost to the Gunners’ title hopes. Fabregas is certainly no stranger to the big moment or big matches.

Chelsea might be hesitant to strike a deal to Arsenal, but they should move immediately if they can profit by selling Fabregas. He’s not likely to be part of their rebuilding project, no matter how short a project it happens to be. Arsenal could certainly use his experience and guile to solidify their midfield as they push forward for a Premier League Championship.
