Chelsea are plotting an audacious 40 million pound transfer move for Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos

The Eden Hazard situation at Chelsea has reached such a crisis point that the club is willing to spend big money on a player who could be a catalyst for their Belgian attacker. They know that their future rests on building a roster who can get the best out of Hazard.

That’s why the club is reportedly setting its sights on German international midfielder Toni Kroos. The Real Madrid man is frustrated at his lack of playing time for the La Liga giants and has his agents sounding out potential landing spots for their client.

40 million pounds is a high price for a player struggling to find regular playing time at their club, but in this case it makes a lot of sense. Chelsea’s midfielders have struggled to create offense for the club all season and Kroos could certainly address that.

Most importantly, he might be the key to unlocking Eden Hazard on the wing. Hazard is arguably Chelsea’s most talented player but his production on the season has been horrific. It’s time for the club to do anything it can to kick-start his career.

The trio of Oscar, Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas have all been below expectations for the club this season as well. Not all of Hazard’s lack of production can be blamed on them, but they certainly haven’t helped. That’s why the possibility of adding a terrific distributor like Kroos is so appealing to Guus Hiddink.

Kroos could slot into the Chelsea lineup either as a defensive midfielder or a number 10. From any spot, his ability to spray passes all over the field could do wonders for Hiddink’s attack. No player would have more to benefit from Kroos’ potential acquisition than Hazard.

As much as Hazard claims to want to play as a number 10, he’s best when he’s playing out wide. The presence of Kroos in the middle of the pitch would allow him to maintain his width more comfortably. Hazard wouldn’t feel the need to drift into the middle of the pitch if he had more confidence in those who possessed the ball there already.

The downside of acquiring Kroos is that he isn’t the most athletic player to deploy in the midfield. There is some question as to whether or not the German international has the athleticism required to flourish in the Premier League. In truth, that’s why he’s failed to hold down a regular starting place for Real Madrid.

This is a big transfer fee, even for a club like Chelsea, but it’s a risk they need to take. They need to do whatever they can to unlock the vast potential of Eden Hazard out on the wing. Adding Toni Kroos to the midfield could be just the help Hazard needs.
