Arsenal is poised to make Everton look small
Arsenal is set to blow Everton’s transfer offer for winger Andriy Yarmolenko out of the water
There aren’t many clubs in the world who have the financial might to make a big club like Everton look small, but Arsenal is certainly one of them. The Gunners are about to make the blues from Merseyside look very small with their offer to stump an immediate 25 million pound to secure the signature of Dynamo Kiev winger Andriy Yarmolenko.
The Express is reporting that Everton had only budgeted 21 million pounds for the dynamic attacker. In contrast, Arsenal has told Yarmolenko’s representatives that they are happy to meet the club’s full asking price if they can get a deal done in January.
Losing out on Yarmolenko would be the latest in a series of transfer blows for Roberto Martinez. Just recently the Toffees missed out on long-time target Sam Byram to West Ham in a move that surprised many around the world of English football. It was thought that completing the move to sell Steven Naismith to Norwich would give Martinez the funds necessary to bring in a player of his choosing.

That player seemed to be Yarmolenko. Everton has been rumored with him for quite a while and Martinez has continually been coy about the club’s interest. Even if the deal took until the summer to get done, most around the club believed he would ultimately end up a part of the Everton attack.
Now those plans seem to be completely destroyed. Arsenal, in their quest for an ever elusive Premier League title are anxious to make a big name attacking purchase this window. Most expected that purchase to be a true number nine, but the uptick in Olivier Giroud’s play as of late seems to have caused Wenger to rethink that strategy.

Now he’s focused in on the Kiev right-sided attacker who’s shown solid form during his side’s Champions League run this year. Curiously, his arrival could mean that Joel Campbell’s game time could be greatly diminished. The young forward has experienced lavish praise from Wenger as of late, but the manager may not yet trust him to help him secure a league title.
For Everton, this transfer blow will send them back to the drawing board with less than two-week remaining in the January window. With his side languishing in 11th place in the league table. the pressure will be piled squarely on Martinez to make an impact purchase to improve the club immediately.
Many have criticized Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for hesitating to splash out big amounts of cash in the past, but it seems he’s going to do so at Everton’s expense this window.
