2. Buy Joel Matip

It’s no secret that Klopp hasn’t been remotely pleased with Liverpool’s defending. When you’re starting Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho together in a meaningful game it’s a pretty good sign you need to add some help at centre back.

While the return of Dejan Lovren can potentially help, Klopp is still on the lookout for a real star to anchor his defense. Joel Matip would certainly fit the bill.

The Cameroon International defender is actually Schalke’s third highest rated player on the season per Whoscored.com. He’s an accomplished and composed central defender who’s been excellent in the Bundesliga. It’s a reasonable bet that his performance would translate quite well (and quickly) to the Premier League.

At just 24 years of age he’s also someone who Klopp could build his central defense around for years to come. You may be wondering why, given his age and level of play, that his current club is willing to let him go. The reason, is that Matip only has six months left on his contract and reportedly has his mind-set on a move away from Germany.

Klopp knows that strengthening the central defense will be crucial to both his short and long-term success at Liverpool. He’ll push hard to bring in Joel Matip sooner rather than later.
