Sergio Busquets doesn’t expect a Manchester City approach
Barcelona star Sergio Busquets admits that his head could be turned by a call from new Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, but he doesn’t expect to receive one

Still, rumors will continue to link Busquets with Manchester City and his old boss until Barcelona comes through on their promise to give their star midfielder a new contract. Reportedly, there’s been a delay in that contract given internal financial controls at the La Liga club. Every day that passes without a new deal, raises the chances of him making a move ever-so-slightly.

Busquets has been an absolute rock in the middle of Barca’s 4-3-3 formation this season. He’s played in a team-high 21 league matches and sports a solid Whoscored.com player rating of 7.25 on the year. More importantly, there doesn’t seem to be an obvious heir apparent for him at the club now. They’ll need to lock him down for a few more seasons to ensure continuity in their middle three.
If Barcelona wavers, expect Manchester City to strongly consider a large bid. After all, Guardiola has an excellent relationship with the player and he would be wise to bring in a player (or several) that knows his system inside and out. Acquiring someone like Busquets could go a long way towards easing Guardiola’s transition into the Premier League.
A potential Manchester City bid for Busquets makes even more sense if you believe, like most pundits do, that Yaya Toure will leave the club once Guardiola arrives. There are few players with the ability to replace his talent in the middle of the City midfield, but Busquets is certainly one of those men. He also has the added bonus of coming without the consider off-the-field baggage that Toure brings to a club.
