5. Vlad Chiriches

The Romanian centre back came to North London with high expectations and an eight and a half million pound tag. Unfortunately for the precocious centre back, he didn’t fit Pochettino’s idea of a Spurs player in the slightest.

Tottenham fans will remember him more for his adventurous forays forward with the ball than anything else. His play mirrored the sky-high opinion he obviously had of his own abilities.

There was also the report that his agent viewed his move to Tottenham as a stepping stone to later move to Chelsea. While that didn’t necessarily come directly from the player, it was pretty clear he wasn’t going to be a lifer at White Hart Lane.

Chiriches might not have been the ring-leader of any bad apple group, but he certainly was a part of the crew of players making the wrong choices. That’s why Pochettino got him a ticket out-of-town with little hesitation. Perhaps he can parlay his time at Napoli to a move to Stamford Bridge or some other club that has aspirations of finishing in the top half of the Premier League this season.
