The 5 worst Tottenham Hotspur bad eggs
4. Etienne Capoue
I must confess that when Capoue first arrived at Tottenham I quite liked him. I saw him as a natural successor to the role that Sandro played in the squad before his career was derailed by injury.
Clearly, Pochettino had a very different opinion of the French midfielder. Despite having the size that the Spurs manager prefers in the midfield, he was quick to get rid of Capoue. That should tip you off that it must have been something about the player’s personality or training habits that rubbed Poch the wrong way.
In all fairness, Capoue has found a home at Watford and has performed pretty well for the Hornets. They do, however, play a significantly different style than the high press that Pochettino has implemented at Spurs. Still, full credit to him for finding his level and staying in the Premier League.
Capoue was also presumed to be a part of the infamous group of players that really resisted Pochettino’s training methods. You’ll notice that of that group, only Mousa Dembele still remains at White Hart Lane and his attitude has certainly improved. Capoue didn’t fare as well, and was sent packing.
