3. Younes Kaboul

You can’t say that Pochettino didn’t try to get Kaboul on board with his vision when he joined the club. He made the slow-fo0ted central defender a captain before banishing him from the team sheet altogether.

While Kaboul’s shoddy play was more than enough justification to send him packing, there were strong rumors that he led a sort of mini-revolt against Pochettino and his training methods. Someone should ask the Frenchman how that worked out for him.

Of course, now he plies his trade at Sunderland and his results have been a pretty mixed bag there. I’m sure he enjoys their relegation battle much more than he’d appreciate the title chase currently underway at Tottenham. It certainly fits his level of play much better.

Even if Kaboul’s off-the-field antics wouldn’t have existed, he still likely wouldn’t have made it under Pochettino. His lack of pace makes him an exceedingly poor fit for the manager’s preferred high line (see Fazio, Federico for reference) so he was going to need a new home regardless. It was still a remarkably swift fall from grace from the man Pochettino made one of his first team captains.
