2. Fitness

If you don’t believe that Tottenham’s fitness plays a huge role in their ability to compete for a Premier League title than you need to have a chat with Ben Davies. The club’s left-back is convinced that his team’s fitness is a key factor in their success this season.

Davies told the Guardian that he believes Tottenham are the fittest team in the Premier League. He says he wasn’t at all ready for Pochettino’s difficult fitness regimen when he made the move from Swansea, but now it’s paying off for he and his teammates.

Spurs’ ability to run all day is a key element to their ability to press the ball according to Pochettino’s wishes. They don’t just press opponents for short bursts during games, but rather for long stretches. It’s not an exaggeration to say they’re able to press their opponents for more of the match than any other Premier League team we’ve seen.

To put that kind of pressure on your opponent, you have to be in incredible shape yourselves. Pochettino’s fitness requirements can rub some players the wrong way, but those players have exited the club. The men who remain buy into his system and know that the training will pay off in the end.

Some teams may get tired towards the end of the Premier League season, but it’s a good bet that Tottenham won’t. Mauricio Pochettino has his players supremely fit as they head down the stretch.
