3. Belief

To win a Premier League title, your players have to believe you can do it. As recently as this week, Pochettino acknowledged that his players have that requisite belief in their chances to achieve Premier League immortality.

The Manchester City win was a great signal that Tottenham really do believe they can win under any circumstances. Once City managed to tie the match, it would have been easy for Spurs to crumble and give up a second goal. At the very least, it would have been understandable if Tottenham would have elected to defend at all costs in hopes of preserving the draw.

Instead, Spurs soaked up the City pressure and then struck when their opponents made a mistake. Erik Lamela pounced on the ball and made a darting run right at the heart of the City defense. Once he drew Nicolas Otamendi to him, he made a perfect pass to Christian Eriksen who buried the match-winner. That’s the type of goal you only score if your players believe they can do anything.

That belief will be crucial as Spurs encounter increasingly difficult fixtures down the stretch. They may not face another opponent with the talent of Manchester City, but the pressure of chasing a Premier League title will weight down on them. Only a team convinced of their own abilities can power through those tough moments and achieve their goals. Fortunately, for Tottenham fans, their players definitely have that belief.
