5. Claudio Ranieri

The tinker man’s appointment was met with snickers and laughter, but it’s the Leicester boss who’s enjoying the last laugh.

Every button he’s pushed this season has been pure magic for his team. From his trust in the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez to his faith in N’Golo Kante, he’s buoyed his player’s spirits with his inspirational team talks. If you still think he’s just a silly old man who failed to manage Greece, you really should pay more attention.

In fact, I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that no other manager would have Leicester in this position. He is clearly the perfect manager at the perfect time for the Premier League leaders.

At other clubs, he might be an unmitigated disaster. His occasional strange comments to the media are seen as lovable at Leicester, whereas they might be perceived as conniving in a larger market. His mind games have been one of the most entertaining things of the current Premier League season.

Ranieri’s magic may run out before his side is able to win the league, but I wouldn’t bet on it. Sometimes a manager just has a perfect year and this could certainly end up as Ranieri’s crowning achievement.
