Eden Hazard does not appear to value his future at Chelsea FC

It seems like forever ago that Eden Hazard was celebrating a Premier League title with his Chelsea teammates. Less than a season removed from that celebration, it seems a foregone conclusion that Hazard will exit Chelsea this summer.

More from Chelsea FC

Hazard fired yet another salvo in his passive-aggressive war with Chelsea with today’s comments in La Parisien stating that it would be “hard to say no to PSG.” That comment, while surprising in its timing, shouldn’t shock anyone. Hazard has been linked with the French giants from the moment he set foot on the grounds at Stamford Bridge.

Hazard’s confession was quickly followed up by a telling response by Chelsea interim-manager Guus Hiddink. The Chelsea boss was quoted in the Daily Mail as saying that “first, he (Hazard) must get fit and show he is a top player.” Those were fighting words from Hiddink.

By now, Chelsea fans and their management have to be sick of Hazard’s questionable commitment to the club. It was widely rumored that his poor form was a huge factor in Jose Mourinho’s ousting at the club which certainly didn’t endear him to the Blues’ fan base. His continued poor play after Mourinho’s departure has only continued to further fan frustration.

On his day, Hazard is one of the best attackers in the world. He can create chances out of thin air and is a clinical finisher. His skill with the ball often causes defenders to lash out and foul him rather than risk trying to mark him legally. That’s how good the Belgian can be.

The trouble is, these days are few and far between as of late for Chelsea. It’s likely that Roman Abramovich will want to sell Hazard over the summer while he still can get a big-time fee for the player. Waiting longer to sell him might risk another poor season decreasing his value significantly.

If Hazard seemed willing to stay and fight to regain his form then Chelsea would likely view him differently. In fact, if he seemed committed to the project at Stamford Bridge he’d probably be seen as a key part of the Chelsea future. Sadly for Chelsea fans, he doesn’t seem committed to either the game or his club.

Add all of these contributing factors together and a divorce between Hazard and Chelsea seems all but inevitable. Barring insistence from a new Chelsea boss on retaining the talented attacker, he should be sold in the summer.

PSG will certainly be an option for Hazard, but they will likely have significant competition once the news of the player’s availability hits the market. It wouldn’t be at all surprising to see Real Madrid and perhaps even Barcelona put in bids as well.

Exiting the Premier League might be just what Hazard needs to regain his form. He is not a player who is at all fond of physical contact which makes the EPL a poor fit for him. He might be much happier somewhere like La Liga where there’s more emphasis on skill and less on physicality.

Things just don’t look as if they are going to work out for either Eden Hazard or Chelsea whilst the two are married together. Divorce is the only option that can benefit both parties.
