Real Madrid vs Roma: Five Things We Learned

Real Madrid took a huge step towards the next round of the Champions League with a 2-0 victory in Rome
It was a wonderful second half from Real Madrid as goals from Ronaldo and Jese gave the visitors two crucial away goals and have put a stranglehold on their Champions League Round of 16 tie against Roma.
A sluggish first half saw Real Madrid get no shots on goal as a volley by Marcelo that went just wide of the far post was the best chance Real had in the first 45 minutes. Roma was no better in terms of great chances but controlled possession for most of the first half and as they looked to try and at least maintain a draw against a mighty team like Madrid.
But that all changed in the second half when Ronaldo’s deflected shot found it’s way into the upper corner to give Madrid that precious away goal. Roma tried to fight back but couldn’t seem to take advantage of the chances given to them. Then substitute Jese came on and in the 86th minute, ran right through the Roma defense and slid the ball into the back of the net for the killer second away goal. It was a 2-0 win for Real Madrid as they got a crucial away win in Rome.
