Questionable calls on both sides changed complexion of the game

Both Real and Roma had shouts at potential penalties but the referee was not amused on many of the shouts for fouls. Ronaldo had a shout in the 2nd half when a high boot caught him in the penalty box and James Rodriguez had one as well when he was taken down inside the box by a challenge that injured the midfielder’s shoulder. James also had another shout when he was caught in the ear by a high boot as he tried to get behind the defense on a through ball. Roma’s biggest one was when Alessandro Florenzi was taken down by Dani Carvajal and it looked like he was caught on the way down but no penalty was given.

Although the Ronaldo and James one’s were questionable, the Florenzi challenged look to be surely a penalty. Replay showed that the Roma player got a touch on the ball right before he was taken down by a sliding Carvajal. In a game of missed chances for Roma, that was certainly one instance where they should have been given a chance to get an equalizer. When Jese finished off the game a few minutes later, Roma was left to rue what would have been.
