It was a fantastic start to the game for Wolfsburg

It was a fantastic opening hour by Wolfsburg as they seemed in control all the way and looked like the far better team in the opening hour. Many doubted the German side after they somehow won their Champions League group, capped off by slaying giants Manchester United 3-2 on the final matchday. Things got even better when Wolfsburg drew Gent out of all teams when the Round of 16 draw was announced.

Sitting 8th in the Bundesliga table, Wolfsburg still have work to do to get back to European qualification for next year. But right now they are focused on the present and if the first 60 minutes were a showing of their quality, they can certainly give some of the bigger teams trouble in the quarterfinals if they advance.

They showed everyone they can beat the big teams when they beat Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup and grabbing three crucial away goals is a big leap to Wolfsburg advancing to the next round. The third goal turned out to be a vital one as Max Kruse headed home a cross from Christian Trasch to give Wolfsburg their third away goal, which has helped them keep their aggregate lead.
