This is still anybody’s tie for the taking

This tie seemed all but over with sixty minutes but Gent has made it a game and now the second leg is as important as ever as the teams will meet next month to play and see who will make it to the quarterfinals. This is new territory for both teams as neither have ever advanced this far and the impact of reaching the quarterfinals are huge for both teams.

For Wolfsburg, this means they can compete with the big guns in Germany as they are currently stranded in the “best of the rest” category. After losing De Bruyne, many wondered if Wolfsburg would recover from that and making it to the quarterfinals would show that they are thriving.

For Gent this would gigantic as a little team from Belgium made it to the quarterfinals. It would do wonders for the club in terms of popularity and financially. It sort of reminds you of Costa Rica when they made their run to the quarterfinals of the World Cup two years ago.

But Wolfsburg will certainly have a big advantage as they will be at home and have three away goals with them as well. They also have an exception home record as they have gone 3-0 so far in all three of their home games in the Champions League so far.
