1. He can become a bigger star

Wayne Rooney is already a global icon, but the majority of his fame emanates from the United Kingdom. A move to China would make him one of the large nation’s biggest stars, thus, greatly enhancing his global reputation.

Maybe Rooney doesn’t care about life after football, but I’m willing to bet that he does. He has to have some aspirations after his days on the pitch are over and increasing his popularity in southeast Asia could open a ton of doors for the United captain.

At the very least, it makes him much more marketable as a spokesperson moving forward. Rooney can already move product in England, but imagine how much more value he’d have with millions of Chinese fans as well. Global corporations would be clamoring for his endorsements.

If he moves to China now, it still leaves him the opportunity to finish his career in the United States in MLS. That would give him significant drawing power in England, China, and the US. Being a strong presence in three of the globe’s most powerful financial markets would set up Rooney perfectly for life after football.
