Manchester United need to make a hard push to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker this summer as they need help at the striker position

After their 2-1 loss to Danish club FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, one things was clear for Manchester United. They need help at the striker position. The Red Devils have struggled to find offense this season and manager Louis Van Gaal has to find a solution up front if he wants to have a chance at keeping his job.

More from Manchester United

Out of the top seven teams in the English Premier League, Manchester United have the lowest amount of goals scored this season with only 33 goals this season. Thankfully for the Red Devils, they have only allowed 24 in which has helped them contend for a Champions League spot in England.

Manchester United are also missing one of their best players and striker Wayne Rooney. The English international has been ruled out of action for around six weeks as he has suffered a knee injury and did not travel with the team to Denmark for their Europa league clash. Rooney is certainly not the future of Manchester United as he is turning 31 next season.

Also, considering his injury issues and the fact that he has looked out of form ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford, Rooney has been linked to a move to China as the Chinese Super League. The CSL has been a popular destination for many players this recent transfer window. He would join the likes of Ramires, Jackson Martinez, Gervinho, and Ezequiel Lavezzi in the CSL.

Manchester United need help at the striker position and although they have been linked to elite strikers like Thomas Muller of Bayern Munich, Gareth Bale of Real Madrid and even Neymar, nothing has come of those rumors. Add the fact that Javier Hernández is now somewhere else and banging in goals for Bayer Leverkusen makes matters worse for the club as Anthony Martial is now the only healthy striker in the squad and seems like the only player that could be in Man U’s future.

Enter Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang, who is a international for the country of Gabon, has been on fire for German club Borussia Dortmund this year. He has scored 31 goals in 30 games for Dortmund, who are currently second in the Bundesliga, with 20 of those games coming in Germany’s top flight of football. Thanks to his blazing speed and pace, Aubameyang is able to get past defenders and his improved finishing ability has made him a dangerous striker.

He also benefits from Dortmunds pressure scheme which relies on high pressing from all the forwards and he is a big part of what makes Dortmund lethal on the counter attack. Together with Marco Reus, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, they form one of Europe’s best trios and are one of the best on the counter.

According to French outlet Le Sport, Manchester United are highly interested in his services and would like to have him at Old Trafford next season. The supposed price tag is 60M Euros for the striker who has also been linked to the likes of Arsenal this past transfer window. It will be tough to get him from Dortmund but if they are able to get the striker, it would be a great addition to the squad.

Aubamayeng would add great pace and would be a terror for many Premier League defenders. Although the style of the Bundesliga is not the same as the BPL, he is a quality enough striker to get past that. He would be the main man at United and with the pace of a Memphis Depay helping him down the wing with maybe Martial up top with him or on the other side, Manchester United could have a solid attack next season.

They would certainly be better on the counterattack as his pace and finishing ability would help that tremendously but considering how much Manchester United like to control possession with Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger in the midfield, the counterattack won’t be a big part of United’s game.

With Rooney likely on his way out of Old Trafford and Martial looking to be the only striker that United currently have in their plans of the future right now, Louis Van Gaal needs a big splash signing this summer. The Dutchman should look to Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as one of his top targets.
