6. Kasper Schmeichel – Leicester City

The son of one of the best ever. Kasper Schmeichel is the son of Peter Schmeichel, who is one of the greatest goalkeepers ever, and Kasper has followed in his father’s footsteps to become a great goalkeeper. I can imagine he hates being compared to the greatness of his dad, but this season he has proved himself to be one of the very best in the Premier League, in just his second full season in the top flight.

Much of the talk about Leicester’s remarkable season this year has been about Vardy and Mahrez, however their success would be nothing without Schmeichel as he has been in fantastic form since day one of the season. At the age of 29, Schmeichel would have been worrying that he hadn’t made it in the Premier League yet, but this season he has shown just how great he is and I bet his dad is extremely proud.

Schmeichel has improved massively since last season, where he kept only six clean sheets all season, so far this year he has kept eight clean sheets and has made 71 vital saves that have kept Leicester right at the top of the league table.

I knew it wouldn’t be long after few good performances until Kasper was linked with a move to Manchester United, his dad achieved fantastic things at United and it seems they want his son to bring back the glory days after a few miserable seasons. However, at the moment he would be stupid to leave Leicester, it is the perfect building block for him to achieve great things like his father.
