5. Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have snatched up former Dortmund stars in Mario Goetze and Robert Lewandowski in the past couple of years and it makes sense that they could be in play to sign Gundogan.

More from Bundesliga

Although the Bavarians have recently snapped up Arturo Vidal and Xabi Alonso to bolster their midfield, they could still use a player like Gundogan. He can help in the attacking midfield as he is better up front in attack than both Alonso and Vidal. With Mario Goetze looking more and more like he may leave Bayern this summer, Gundogan could find himself with a good amount of playing time.

Sitting in a 4-1-4-1 formation with Vidal as the holding midfielder, Gundogan would have to fight the likes of Thiago Alcântara and Sebastian Rode for a spot next to Thomas Muller in the middle of the mid-field.

But Bayern enter an area of uncertainty as Pep Guardiola is set to leave the club at the season’s end and Carlos Ancelotti will be set to replace him. Nobody knows who Ancelotti has in mind as his summer transfer signings and he may be inclined to bring in his former players. But there is no denying that Gundogan to Bayern Munich could happen. Even Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said last year that he would be willing to sell the midfielder to Bayern. Now it might actually happen.
