5. Edin Dzeko

Mourinho could turn to one of his former competitors in the form of Roma striker Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian centre forward hasn’t lit Serie A on fire since his move away from Manchester City, but his style of play fits Mourinho perfectly.

His comical miss in yesterday’s match aside, Dzeko has been pretty productive for the fourth place Serie A side. He’s chipped in a tidy eight goals and five assists on all appearances this season. Those aren’t eye-popping numbers, but he’s also a proven Premier League commodity.

That means he would be a solid bet to step in and play right away at United. There wouldn’t be any sort of adjustment period for Dzeko so he could help Mourinho compete immediately. Don’t underestimate that factor in Mourinho’s selection of striking targets.

Dzeko is a classic centre forward who could play the Diego Costa role for Mourinho at United. He’s big, bruising, but can surprise you with a high level of skill as well. I always thought Dzeko was underutilized during his time at City, and a move to United to play for Mourinho could have the Citizens crying over their decision to let the towering striker get away.
