2. Gonzalo Higuain

Napoli are mounting an impressive march on a Serie A title at the moment, and striker Gonzalo Higuain is a big reason why. The Argentine hit man has been a prolific striker for the Italian club and could be slated for a move to the Premier League this summer.

Various reports have linked Higuain with Arsenal, but I don’t see any reason that United couldn’t insert themselves into the conversation as well. The 28-year-old number nine certainly wouldn’t come cheap, but United has the financial capacity to make Napoli an offer they cannot refuse.

More from Manchester United

The former Real Madrid striker is on fire this season for his club, that surprisingly sits just two points behind Juventus currently. He has poured in an astounding 24 goals in 25 Serie A starts which tops the league. His fantastic finishing ability and hold-up play have been a joy to watch for Napoli fans all season long.

Manchester United fans would certainly enjoy that type of performance at Old Trafford. In particular, his ability to hold up play could create acres of space for Anthony Martial or perhaps even Memphis Depay if he can regain his form. He’d score plenty of goals on his own of course, but Higuain could be the key to unlocking the rest of United’s attack.

His commitment to winning the ball back in defense would also be an attractive quality for Mourinho. There’d be no concerns over Higuain’s work rate which could provide a needed boost to the United defense as well.

Higuain may be connected with Arsenal at the moment, but Mourinho could cause United to swoop in and steal the star striker under Arsene Wenger’s nose.
