5. Marc- Andre ter Stegen saved at least three goals for Barcelona

Barcelona should thank their lucky stars they have two world-class keepers to choose from. It was a night where Arsenal had some great quality chances, especially in the second half. But they were denied by German Marc-André ter Stegen who made some fantastic saves especially in the second half. The German was able to stretch out and deny Oliver Giroud’s header at his near post to deny Arsenal the opening goal. He later denied them an equalizer as he denied Aaron Ramsey a goal from the goal line. He also denied Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the first half from almost the exact same spot where he later denied Ramsey.

Despite the fact that he doesn’t play in La Liga and his unusual goalkeeping style, ter Stegen plays exceptionally well in Europe and in the Copa Del Rey. He helped Barcelona stay as one of the better defensive teams in the Champions League. Behind his keeping, Barcelona have only allowed four goals during the group stage and now the first leg. Some of his saves have to deal with Arsenal’s poor finishing but credit should be given to the German. He certainly saved at least three goals tonight.
