Tottenham’s 2-1 come from behind win over Swansea had Spurs looking like a  Premier League title-winning side

Every time Tottenham has been put under pressure in their quest to capture the Premier League title this season they’ve come up with a big performance. Their 2-1 win over Swansea today made Spurs look a lot like a side that could end the club’s Premier League title drought.

Even when Tottenham went down a goal in the first half against the Swans, you never got the impression that the squad was panicked in any way. They gave up a relatively unlucky goal and responded by controlling the action for the rest of the first half. Even though they didn’t find their equalizer in the first 45 minutes, they asserted their superiority over Swansea.

Minutes continued to creep by in the second half and while the stress level of Tottenham’s fan base may have risen significantly, the players on the pitch remained cool, calm and collected. They simply continued to pile pressure onto Swansea in search of what seemed to be an inevitable game tying goal.

That goal emerged in the form of a classy finish by second half substitute Nacer Chadli. The Belgian attacker managed to artfully slot home a ball played towards goal by fullback Kyle Walker in the match’s 70th minute. The precision of the Belgian’s finish was a perfect representation of how his side had managed to keep their heads even as pressure mounted to find a goal.

Seven minutes later fullback Danny Rose hammered home a bouncing finish to give Tottenham their second goal which put them on top for good. It was a solid strike that didn’t surprise anyone at White Hart lane when it rippled the back of the net. It was the strike of a side that seems poised to hoist a Premier League trophy at the season’s end.

Tottenham managed to find a way to comfortably win another match from behind. That, in and of itself, isn’t anything new for Spurs this season. After all, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have won the most points form losing positions in the Premier League season this year. What was different, was the way that Tottenham looked as they went about their business.

They’ve been determined all year-long when trailing the opposition, but there was something different about Pochettino’s side today. Today, they weren’t just determined, they played with complete assurance. There wasn’t a man in a Spurs kit today who doubted that his team was going to prevail for even a moment today.

It was exactly the type of performance that Premier League fans are used to seeing from teams that are marching towards the title. Opposing fans may have had their hopes raised when Alberto Paloschi gave the Swans the advantage, but those who watched the match knew all along it wasn’t going to last.

Tottenham was playing with that special something that only title-winning teams possess. It’s a combination of confidence, determination, desperation and self-assurance that’s almost impossible to describe. It’s a lot like pornography, it’s impossible to put into words, but you know it when you see it.
