Real Madrid vs Roma : Five Things to Watch For
By Vijay Vemu
2. The return of Gareth Bale
After missing the first leg with a calf injury, Gareth Bale is ready to make an impact on this tie. Bale returned back to the Real Madrid squad against Celta Vigo and scored a goal in his return. He has scored 14 goals and has tallied 8 assists for Real Madrid in La Liga. But he has still yet to score in the Champions League. He has only played two games and he will be looking to break his scoring duck in the UCL.
Scoring a goal in this tie would be massive as it would force Roma to score at least three goals to stay in this tie and we have to see if they are up to that task.
Bale looked sharp in his return as he looked to have fully recovered from his injury. A leg injury could cause problems if not treated correctly but Bale has seemed to full recover. He looked just as fast and was an essential part of Madrid’s attack against Celta Vigo. He struggled last year in the Champions League as he experienced a huge dip in form and it drew a lot of criticism from the media. There was talk of him leaving but Bale is staying till at least the summer. Might as well use him to his strengths on the wing.
