Leicester City proving it can be done

How many times have fans heard the excuse that the league title will go to not only the best team, but often the richest? It has proven to be mostly true in the Premier League era but there have been some notable exceptions.

Wenger has often pointed to the ridiculous spending of his rivals as the reason why Arsenal never get a fair shake at the title but this season has thrown all of that out of the window. Leicester City is top of the league with one of the smallest budgets in the league and they have spent less than £7 million combined on their three best players, Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, and N’Golo Kanté.

Tottenham Hotspur have become big spenders in recent years but their core players are the product of sound investments and their own youth team. Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela cost pretty pennies but Harry Kane, Delle Alli, Eric Dier, and Toby Alderweireld were all either bargains or youth team products. Both of these teams prove that money, or the lack of it, can no longer be a crutch upon which Wenger leans.
