The trophy drought

This topic was covered slightly in the introduction but it is worth repeating once again. It is simply unacceptable for a club with the resources and reputation of Arsenal to go eight years without a major trophy.

Some can even argue that the FA Cup is not a major trophy as clubs such as the relegated Wigan Athletic have lifted it in the past five years. Clubs often undervalue the competition and send out B-teams and youth players so they can focus on the league and it is still the only trophy the Gunners have lifted since 2005.

Even the fact that they lifted it two years in a row does little to distract from the fact that there have been so many disappointments and early exits from cups, both European and otherwise, in recent years.

Simply put, if Arsenal do not win the Premier League this season then Arsene Wenger must be fired. This is a year in which Chelsea have taken themselves out of the race, Manchester United are too boring to even crack the top four, Manchester City seem to only care about Europe, and Arsenal still cannot win the league.

To make matters so much worse, Tottenham is a better contender for the league title and Leicester City have done it with a fraction of the budget that the Gunners have. Eight years is long enough without a major trophy and nearly a decade without a Premier League title for a club like this is just downright shameful.
