Chelsea FC: Loic Remy must be sold this summer
Loic Remy’s Chelsea career is all but over. The Frenchman’s contribution is below par, when he even makes it on to the pitch.
On July 1, 2016, Loic Remy should be sold, it’s as simple as that. The Frenchman has shown signs of brilliance throughout his time at Stamford Bridge. He’s often found himself in great positions to score goals. However, whenever he plays this season, as rare as it may be, he is more likely to find himself in offsides position.

Unfortunately, for both the Blues and Remy, injuries have kept him out of the side for prolonged periods of time. That coupled with the dazzling form of Diego Costa lately has made Remy excess requirements, especially seeing his performance at the weekend, even if it was short-lived.
To the Frenchman’s defense, it’s hard to build consistency and success when opportunities are hard to come by, even if he was capable of remaining healthy. However, if he fails to take his chances, there is no possible way to justify giving him more time to play.
Couple this with Bertrand Traore’s rise to form lately and it should be considered a foregone conclusion that Remy will exit West London this summer. Traore has done exactly what is required of him and it’s why he’s moved ahead of Remy in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
For a striker, goals are the currency in which we measure output. Traore has scored 4 goals in 5 appearances for Chelsea under Hiddink.
According to his manager, he works hard in training, challenging the more senior players, and has more than earned his place in the squad.
With Traore playing the way he is, it would be a waste to see him sit on the bench in favor of Remy. Right now, Remy is simply an unnecessary roadblock for youth talent to make their mark in the Chelsea squad.
When Diego Costa must be rested, isn’t fit, or Chelsea need a different look, Hiddink is no longer turning to Remy for inspiration, he’s looking to Traore. It’s a great chance for the Blues to begin to incorporate that youth talent that we’ve been so eager to see for so long.
Include Traore with the potential of Alexandre Pato, who’s yet to play under Hiddink, it makes Remy even more dispensable. The Brazilian striker has failed to feature for Chelsea thus far, but the signs are there that he may experience a renaissance at Stamford Bridge. We won’t know til we see him play, but we won’t see him play with Remy above him in the pecking order.
The shame in all of this is that Remy has shown so much potential in a Blues shirt. There were times where people were calling for him to start.
However, his injuries, coupled with his inconsistency and the amount of times he finds himself in offside position is majorly why he hasn’t featured as often. It’s simply not worth wasting chances on him anymore.

He hasn’t even looked like he wants to be here, which is even more of a reason to look elsewhere for inspiration. A player lacking the motivation to make an impact is useless as a substitute.
The importance of a backup striker is someone who can come off the bench and change the game. Traore has shown that he can do that, whereas it looks like Remy no longer can.
Furthermore, Chelsea have considerable striking talent on loan in Dominic Solanke, Izzy Brown, and Patrick Bamford. It would be foolish to allow a striker who is collecting expensive wages and underperforming, block the path of a youth player who has the hunger to make an impact.
Whether or not it’ll be Antonio Conte next season remains to be seen. However, it’s almost a forgone conclusion that whoever takes the reigns from Guus Hiddink will be looking to find a suitor for Remy as soon as possible.
