5. Tale of two halves for Real Madrid attack again

Like a repeat of the first leg, it was a bad first half performance turned into a brilliant second half performance by Real Madrid. Although they did not allow any goals in the first half, they didn’t push the ball much the other way either.

Like stated earlier, Roma controlled the majority of the chances in the first half as the Madrid attack looked stagnant. They didn’t push the ball forward much and looked out of sync. It wasn’t as bad as the no shots on goal first half performance in the first leg in Rome but it was not good at all.

But they really picked it up in the second half. Madrid seemed to find a new energy. With Ronaldo up top as striker, the Madrid offense seemed more free-flowing. There was no pressure and they started pelting the Roma goal with shots.

They forced some great saves from Wojciech Szczęsny and controlled possession in the second half. They forced a Roma team who was desperate for goals to start chasing the ball and took the tie by the throat. It was another tale of two halves for Real Madrid. But they have to become more consistent as they go forward.
