4. Chelsea’s young talent isn’t quite ready for the big time

Guus Hiddink chose to utilize two of his club’s young starlets against PSG. Kenedy started at left-back while he chose to bring on Bertrand Traore for the injured Diego Costa after an hour of play.

First, the good news. Kenedy was one of the Blues best players on the day. He may not have the mental side of playing left-back down as of yet, but he makes up for any mental struggle with an abundance of talent and athleticism. He may very well take hold of that position at Stamford Bridge for years to come.

On the other hand, Traore, who came into the match on a Premier League goal scoring tear, looked average at best. He never really got into the flow of the match after coming on, and was physically outmatched by the PSG defense. He looks more likely to be a key bench player next season than a starter.

Chelsea fans have every right to be excited about their club’s starlets, but they can’t get carried away. They are not ready to step up in the biggest matches quite yet. Patience will be key for each player’s development.
