Liverpool selling Jordan Henderson to Tottenham makes zero sense
Jordan Henderson moving from Liverpool to Tottenham in a 25 million pound move does not make sense for the player or either club
The idea that Liverpool will would sell captain Jordan Henderson to Tottenham is far-fetched at best. The idea that Spurs would spend 25 million pounds on a player who wouldn’t dramatically improve their team is downright insane.

The Sun reported this week that Spurs were preparing a huge transfer bid for Jordan Henderson this summer. That’s a rumor that can help the Sun sell papers, but doesn’t pass the logic test. It would be a foolish move on behalf of everyone involved.
From Liverpool’s perspective, why would they sell their captain to a Premier League rival even at that hefty price? Jurgen Klopp and the Transfer Committee at Anfield will be looking to strengthen their squad in the upcoming window. They certainly won’t be keen to create another glaring hole in their starting 11 to fill.
There’s also the small matter that Henderson serves as Liverpool’s captain. He’s done a lot to help Jurgen Klopp transition successfully as the Reds’ manager. He is the unquestioned leader of the squad and selling him would create a significant leadership void at Anfield.
For Tottenham, a move for Henderson makes even less logical sense. Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino have already admitted that Spurs won’t be flush with cash this transfer window due to future stadium construction expenses. Most believe they will fund a couple of high-profile purchases to back Pochettino, but they’ll need to be high impact buys.
Henderson is a good Premier League player who would definitely get game time at Tottenham, but he isn’t a game changer for Spurs. He’d likely split time with Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele in the team’s defensive midfield, but he wouldn’t drastically change the quality of the team’s starting 11. If Tottenham are going to spend 25 million on a player this window, he will need to be a clear upgrade over the current squad.
Lastly, for Jordan Henderson I don’t think this move makes much sense either. He’s managed to carve a solid, consistent role out for himself at Liverpool under Klopp and I can’t see him jeopardizing that for uncertainty at White Hart Lane.
If he’s going to leave Anfield it’s going to be for a team that is a clear upgrade and for a starting position that is clearly guaranteed. The uncertainty regarding his playing time at Tottenham disqualifies Spurs from being a Henderson destination.
