There is no manager better equipped to win a Premier League title at Arsenal than Jose Mourinho

If Arsenal truly wants to do everything it can to end its Premier League title drought there’s a relatively simple solution that is currently being ignored. They could replace current manager Arsene Wenger with his most hated rival, Jose Mourinho.

I must confess this isn’t a completely original idea on my part. It’s something I’ve been considering for weeks, but Ian Wright came out and suggested Arsenal should move for Mourinho in today’s in today’s Express. It might not be a move popular with Arsenal’s fan base, but they’d get over it as soon as The Special One started winning games for their club.

Think about it, one of the things that is missing from Arsenal’s current set-up is a real killer instinct. Some categorize it as a lack of leadership within the squad while some point the finger at Wenger’s management. I’m not sure which is at fault, but I know that Mourinho’s installation would cure Arsenal of that problem. Players would have no choice, but to either become killers or find themselves a new club.

And make no mistake, many Gunners would find themselves departing their comfortable home at the club. Mourinho isn’t a manager that everyone even respects. Hiring him would equal massive turnover the likes of which Arsenal hasn’t seen in years.

Mourinho wouldn’t necessarily be a long-term answer for the North London club, but he is a man who has won silverware at every stop. Surely Arsenal ownership would trade some of the stability they’ve enjoyed over the past decade for a couple of Premier League trophies.

I also realize this move would be the worst case scenario for current Gunner boss Arsene Wenger. The current Arsenal boss and Mourinho don’t exactly exchange Christmas cards at this point in their careers. Some believe they almost came to blows during a Chelsea-Arsenal match last year. I think that’s an overstatement, but certainly agree that the two men don’t like each other at all.

In fact, hiring Mourinho might cause a permanent rift between the club and it’s decorated manager. If the club doesn’t want to risk that kind of bad blood I certainly understand. Failing to take that risk does mean that the club would be prioritizing their long-term relationship with Wenger more than maximizing its chances to win a league title in the short-term.

Arsenal faces a fork in the road in terms of its managerial future. It can play it safe and stick with Arsene Wenger, or they could take the bold choice and hire someone new. If they choose to take that route and risk their comfort and stability in exchange for a better chance at a Premier League title, they could do no better than hiring Jose Mourinho.
