PSG striker Edinson Cavani wants to move to Chelsea to become Antonio Conte’s first-choice striker

PSG striker Edinson Cavani is tired of being pushed out to the left by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He’s desperate to join a club that will employ an attacking style and utilize him as a centre-forward. It’s clear that Cavani believes an Antonio Conte managed Chelsea would suit him perfectly.

The revelation that Cavani would prefer to play for Conte, or Juventus manager Max Allegri, comes as a big blow to Manchester United and Louis van Gaal. The Red Devils have been interested in Cavani for quite some time and per reports, were preparing a move for the Uruguayan hit man this summer. Now it seems as if Cavani’s attention has shifted away from Old Trafford to Stamford Bridge.

In this instance, United’s loss could well end up as Chelsea’s gain. If the Blues, as expected, bring Conte on board this summer it could vault them into the pole position for Cavani’s services. Acquiring the PSG front man would allow Chelsea to move Diego Costa and his off-the-pitch baggage elsewhere this summer.

Chelsea will face stiff competition in the form of Allegri’s Juventus side. Especially if the Serie A giants lose Alvaro Morata due to Real Madrid’s buyback clause for the young forward. Morata’s departure would leave The Old Lady with a gaping hole at striker which Cavani could certainly fill.

Even with strong interest from Juventus, you wouldn’t want to bet against Chelsea due to their financial muscle. It’s hard to imagine Roman Abramovich being outbid for a player his club is truly interested in. If Cavani is available this summer, don’t be at all surprised if he calls Stamford Bridge home next season.

The ripple effects of a Cavani move would be far-reaching. First, for United it means they will need to look elsewhere for a centre-forward. Expect them to be strong contenders for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain if he decides to move on. He’s lit up Serie A competition this season and is primed for a move to the Premier League.

Ironically, Cavani heading to Chelsea could make Eden Hazard’s departure from the club much more likely. PSG would be left without a true star after the departures of Ibrahimovic and Cavani and might try to fill that void with the Chelsea wide man. It’s not inconceivable that some sort of swap deal could emerge between the two powerful clubs.

Chelsea fans can delight in the news that Edinson Cavani would rather play for them than rival Manchester United. Of course, it would only take one managerial change at Old Trafford to swing the odds back in their favor. As for now though, Cavani looks headed to Stamford Bridge.
