After just four months into his managerial career, Gary Neville has been sacked by Valencia and his introduction into the harsh world of football management has ended maybe a bit too early?

When Gary Neville was appointed manager of Valencia back in December it came as a shock to English and Spanish football and was really unexpected. Although, very few people doubted that Gary Neville wouldn’t be a success in management after his great football punditry and knowledge of the game.

However, very few people saw what was coming next…

It wasn’t very good at all and was quite disappointing from him and his Valencia team. It took Neville a while to get his first league win and even when he did he struggled to keep up some consistency in his results. The only positive about his time at Valencia was his ability to guide them to the semi-finals of the Copa Del Rey, however, it all came crashing down when they was dismantled by a fantastic Barcelona team.

It seemed that Valencia’s fans never really fancied an English manager and never believed he was the man to turn their season around. It is fair to say that the pressure was against Neville from day one and any manager would have struggled to turn this Valencia team around, let alone Neville in his first managerial role.

At the beginning it all seemed so promising as the media were reporting that Neville would use the Valencia job as a step up to replacing Roy Hodgson as England manager in the future. However, four months down the line it has gone pear-shaped and his reputation has been ruined after one poor job that can only be described as a nightmare.

But, Valencia will live to regret this decision in the future because I think Neville will go on to be a very successful manager, if given the chance to manage a team his way.

I think it is safe to say that Valencia was already a sinking ship before Neville arrived and yet he will be the one getting the blame. He was given an impossible task at Valencia and he was always going to struggle with a lack of experience, but he should have been given a lot more time.

Neville should feel hard done by that he only was given four months to prove his worth in football management at the highest level. Everyone knows that Neville is only of the best football pundits in the world and his knowledge of the game is amazing. If given more time, I feel that he would have been very successful as a manager in Spain, but of course no manager gets time in the modern game these days.

I believe a Gary Neville that has his own players, his own pre season and his own season plan he could be a very successful manager, however Valencia were too impatient to give him this chance and they will live to regret it because he will be a success at another club.
