8. Gary Cahill

Although Cahill was dropped from the side for the Holland match, it still seems that he should be starting for this English side when they open the EURO’s against Russia. Cahill and John Stones have been battling this position out recently. Even though Stones is younger and could potentially have a great future for England, he is going through a big slump at the moment and it showed against the Netherlands.

Gary Cahill captained this side due to Rooney’s injury as England went on to beat Germany 3-2. John Stones definitely has the talent to be great in the future, but England is worried about the present, and Gary Cahill is the guy that they should look to in the present. He knows how to lead, he has played alongside John Terry. He is 6’4” and can climb above most forwards to win headers.

He was put on the bench for the Holland match and John Stones was given a golden opportunity. After the Netherlands beat England and a crucial mistake from Stones, his position is in question and should be given to someone who can lead from the back and has the experience that this English team needs.
