4. Atletico stuck to their gameplan

Credit should be given to Atletico in this game. They stuck to their game plan and played it well. After they scored the goal with Torres, Atletico decided to park the bus and defend with their lives on the line. They packed the box with defenders and forced Barcelona to move along the wings and send in crosses.

More from Playing for 90

It was a smart game plan considering that Barcelona are not always the best in the air. Atletico didn’t allow the Catalans to break them down inside the box with little one touch passes and they should be proud of their effort on defense tonight. Everyone from Antoine Griezmann to Jon Oblak should be proud of their performance tonight. Especially Diego Godin who played fantastic at the back for a Atletico team down a man.

Although they ended up giving away two goals, they made Barcelona work on the offensive end. You could see the goal coming as the Catalans kept pushing and pushing.

Even with Atletico having nine players in the box, Barcelona still broke them down and that just shows the class of Barcelona. Nothing against Atletico Madrid. They played great and Diego Simeone had a game plan for them to defend and they executed perfectly. This was a typical Atletico Madrid game.
