Daley Blind

The Dutch star has been something of a Swiss Army Knife for Louis van Gaal this season and has been deployed almost exclusively as a central defender. Next year, it’s much more likely that Blind will be shifted forward on the pitch, back to his natural home as a defensive midfielder.

The second defensive midfield spot is truly one of the most difficult to project at United next season. It’s a safe bet that Michael Carrick won’t be at United next year and it doesn’t seem that Bastian Schweinsteiger has enough left in the tank to be a consistent starter. That leaves a terrific opportunity for Blind to claim the spot as his own.

Of course there’s always the possibility that United will bring in a big-name to really solidify their defensive midfield. If that happens, Blind could easily find himself as more of a super sub next year. I’d argue that’s a better arrangement for both the club and player.

In the absence of a big name purchase though, Blind is the most capable man to partner with Schneiderlin. The two would work well together and Blind could really show the full range of his talents playing a more advanced role.
