Aguero isn’t the third best player in the world

Sergio Aguero isn’t the third best player in the world, despite what one Journalist from The Sun thinks
There’s little room for doubt when it comes to the top two players in the world, and the lingering debate in world football tends to revolve around who holds the title of ‘The worlds third best player’.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are widely recognised as the top two players in football, and finding somebody who disagrees can be likened to finding a needle in a haystack. These two world-class talents are historical, and their rivalry unmatchable.
The naturally gifted maestro, Lionel Messi, versus the product of hard work and sheer determination, Cristiano Ronaldo. This pair of players so far above the rest that they are undoubtedly two of the best to ever kick a football. There’s simply no real way to argue against these two being at the top of anyone’s list, however the third place spot is far more debatable.
You find the likes of Neymar, Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez pushing to prove they are amongst the best. These three incredibly talented players are all superstars, and I bet you could argue for either one of them to hold the title of the third best player in the world – but what about Sergio Aguero?
Truth be told, I bet you didn’t even consider Aguero for the title, and why would you over the likes of Suarez or Bale? The Sun’s northern football correspondent, Neil Custis, does however believe Sergio Aguero is the third best player in the world – as covered in this article by Sky Sports.
Custis told the Sunday Supplement his views, saying; “In my opinion they have the third best player in the world in Sergio Aguero,”
“If everybody in the Man City team had the application Aguero has, week-in, week-out, they would have won this league by March.”
“One of the reasons why he doesn’t get nominated is because he just goes out and plays football – there’s nothing else to him and he just gets on with it.”
“You look at his scoring stats and they are incredible, you look at his work rate, and you never see or read an ‘Aguero could be on his way’ or an ‘Aguero wants out’ story.”
“He never causes a problem and he’s Manchester City’s greatest ever player, but I think he’s also one of the greatest players ever to touch the Premier League.”
“Manchester City would not be where they are without Aguero, no matter how much money spent, no matter how many players signed. They simply would not have achieved what they have.”
“Aguero has been the catalyst and focal point for everything they have achieved over the last four or five years.”

While valid argument for the effect Aguero makes to the Manchester City side, these don’t make him the third best player in the world. Yes, he’s one of the key figures in a Manchester City side that currently sits third in the Premier League behind Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur, but Aguero is drastically upstaged by the likes of Suarez (the most comparable of the aforementioned players).
In all competitions this season, Sergio Aguero has made 40 appearances. He has scored 28 goals and created 5, meaning he has a ratio of creating 0.825 goals per game.
Luis Suarez however has 49 appearances in all competitions, scoring 53 and assisting 25. This gives him the ratio of creating 1.6 goals per game. In his last two matches he has scored 4 goals, even assisting 3 in one of those games.

However good you consider Aguero, Luis Suarez is simply better. They are both phenomenal players, but the contribution Suarez makes and the ridiculous ability that he possess give him more of an argument than Aguero.
Without even considering the rise of Neymar and Gareth Bale, Aguero still doesn’t make it as the world’s number three.
For me, he’s one of the best players in the Premier League, but I think considering him as the third best in the world may be a little too far.
