1. First real competition for Bayern Munich

Let’s be honest, this will be Bayern Munich’s first real competition since they last played Juventus in the Round of 16 over a month ago. Since then, they haven’t been tested a whole lot although Benfica gave them a little scare. But even then we expected Bayern Munich to walk out of that match with a win. They haven’t faced a team that will make them work and it has been a criticism of them in the past. Can they stay focused on the Champions League knowing that the Bundesliga and German Cup are all but sealed for them.

The lack of competition they face in Germany could hinder them and Guardiola will have to make sure that his team is ready mentally to face a team like Atletico Madrid. This will be a great tie regardless. Two teams with completely opposite styles clashing and the winner gets to go to the Champions League final.

For Bayern this could be revenge for their previous two losses in the semi-finals against Barcelona and Real Madrid. Now they face the full gauntlet as they play Atletico now.

For Atleti, this will be another amazing season if they are able to reach the final of the Champions League once again. Maybe we might see a rematch of the Madrid derby final from a few years ago.
