Liverpool could be the beneficiary of Carlo Ancelotti’s latest advice to Bayern star Mario Gotze
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s affection for Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze isn’t news to anyone. What should come as a surprise to most football fans, is that new Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti has advised Gotze to move away from the Bundesliga giants if he wants to find regular playing time next season.
Reports from Germany claim that Ancelotti spoke with the World Cup winner last week about his future at Bayern and advised the attacking player to fully explore his transfer options this summer. If Gotze is indeed made available by Bayern, expect Liverpool to be at the top of the transfer que for his services.
Liverpool fans are anxious to see what high-profile stars Klopp might be able to attract to Anfield this summer and stars don’t come much brighter than Gotze. He’s lost some of his luster since losing his place in the Bayern starting 11 this season, but he’d still be an exciting acquisition for Liverpool. He could fit seamlessly into Klopp’s attacking midfield three along side Philippe Coutinho and possibly Adam Lallana.

Klopp’s challenge with Gotze will be to rebuild the player’s confidence. He’s gone from being on top of the football world by scoring the World Cup winning goal for Germany to struggling to find playing time with Bayern in a shockingly short amount of time. Thrusting him into the Premier League’s bright lights won’t be the easiest road to redemption for the talented German.
Still, playing for Klopp should provide him with a solid opportunity to kick-start his career. You can’t deny Gotze’s talent even though his production hasn’t lived up to his reputation as of late. Given what Klopp has managed to get out of less talented attackers at Anfield this season, you have to like Gotze’s chances of being successful there as well.
The real question to me is how much Bayern will want for Gotze on the open market. Even with his diminished role as of late, he’s still one of football’s bigger names. I can’t imagine the Bundesliga champions letting him go for anything other than a large transfer fee. Liverpool’s transfer committee might prove hesitant to meet Bayern’s valuation for their precocious midfielder.

Expect this to be a transfer saga that drags on significantly into the summer. If he does leave Bayern Munich, Liverpool is Gotze’s most likely destination. However, there are a lot of other clubs who might want to swoop in if the Reds hesitate for even a moment.
