#5- Wil Trapp

The Crew’s talented, 23-year-old, holding midfielder doesn’t get a ton of buzz. He’s not eye-catchingly athletic. He plays a position that is somewhat a mystery to the casual fan. He is overshadowed on his team by flashier stars like Higuain, and previously Kei Kamara. But he is ridiculously consistent. He is the unsung starter of a lot of the attacks for the Crew. He distributes the ball at an elite level and is not afraid to physically defend the middle of the park as well. When a soccer legend like Thierry Henry sings a specific opponent’s praises following a match-up, there is probably a wealth of talent there.

Trapp needs to continue working on his craft, ensuring he is a true two-way midfielder. He has previously served as a captain for the USMNT’s U-20 side, and was a part of the U-23’s failed Olympic bid in 2016. Earning two caps so far for the US’ first team, it will be important for Trapp to showcase his talents at that level, and learn as much as he can from Michael Bradley on how to effectively start the attack.
