Eric Dier

It didn’t take long for us to reach another Tottenham player, did it? Well, Eric Dier strikes me as our strongest defensive midfielder, necessary to providing cover for our perhaps weaker defence.

More from Euro 2016

Previously a central defender, Dier’s physicality and defensive knowledge has allowed him to burst into the Spurs midfield as a key figure for the side that challenged for the title.

For England, he’ll add solidarity and protection to the team, hopefully winning back the ball and getting it back to our creative forwards.

Wilshere could be here, and I wouldn’t be surprised knowing Hodgson’s previous tactics, but I can’t see why a player whose been out so long should start here.
