FC Barcelona vs Sevilla : Five things we learned

FC Barcelona won their record 28th Copa Del Rey in a 2-0 extra time win over Sevilla thanks to goals from Jordi Alba and Neymar. 

This by far wasn’t Barcelona’s easiest game to win and they had to dig deep for this win. Credit to Sevilla for playing this game with their hearts out as they were playing for a double as well after their 3-1 win in the Europa League final over Liverpool.

Javier Mascherano was sent off for a foul on Kevin Gamiero, denying the French striker a clear goalscoring opportunity. The game completely in the first half thanks to that sending off. Barcelona was down to 10 men and they had to hold onto the game. Sevilla, who had the man advantage, came very close to scoring. Ever Banega hit the post in the second half as he beat goalie Marc-Andre Ter Stegen to his right post but the ball shot off the post and was cleared.

The game looked to be heading to extra time but Banega brought down Neymar and was subsequently sent off as well. It was the real game changer as Barcelona took advantage in the extra time frame. Lionel Messi found Jordi Alba sprinting down the left flank and fired a pitch-perfect pass to him. Alba was right in front of the goal and didn’t miss as he scored to give Barcelona the 1-0 lead. Neymar sealed the game in the 122nd minute with another goal as Barcelona lifted another trophy.
