Chelsea FC will look to add to their striker depth by adding the Juventus and former Real Madrid striker
The 2015-16 season was absolutely dreadful for Chelsea FC. A year after winning the English Premier League title, the Blues suffered a massive drop in form and were in the relegation zone for some time.
During that time, Chelsea sacked manager Jose Mourinho, who is now taking over rival club Manchester United next year, and replaced him with caretaker Guus Hiddink. Under Hiddink, Chelsea finished mid-table and ended the year on an ok note.
Antonio Conte, who is the head coach of Italy’s national team, is expected to take over the job as the Blues manager after the Euros. With Conte coming in, change is all but certain. Some Chelsea players are going to be viewed as expendable and sold or put on loan. Stamford Bridge will also see some new faces as Conte certainly has a list of transfer targets he wants to bring to England. If he doesn’t, that’s a problem. But thankfully for Chelsea FC, it appears that it’s not as they are heavily linked with a move for Spanish striker Alvaro Morata.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Chelsea and Morata seem to be headed closer with each passing day. It was Conte who brought Morata over to Juventus from Real Madrid back in 2013 and now they may be headed for a reunion although the Blues are fighting the likes of PSG for his signature. A deal is not expected before the Euros as some very key triggers are in place after the end of the competition.
When Real Madrid sold Morata, they had a two-year buy-back clause that allowed them to bring him back to the club for 30 million Euros. If Los Blancos decide to that, Morata will be headed to the Bernabeu. But with Karim Benzema and Real Madrid linked heavily with Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, playing time will come at a premium for Morata. He may find a move elsewhere if he goes back to Real Madrid. With that being said, it would not be surprising to see him brought back and then sold by Real Madrid.

If Chelsea FC bought Morata, he would be a good addition to the club. He can play alone up top or alongside the likes of Diego Costa, who’s physicality would contrast nicely with Morata’s style. Morata can hold up the ball and help in possession and his off the ball movements help him find open gaps in the defense to exploit. He is also a poacher and can pounce on any rebound.
The Spaniard has shown his class in England previously when he scored against Manchester City in the Champions League group stage. It was a brilliant goal as he spun around and shot with his left foot, his non-strong foot, and curled a shot past Joe Hart.
Morata would be an upgrade over the likes of backup striker Loic Remy and help Conte’s transition from Italian football to English football.
