Paul Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, wants to make sure his client secures the biggest money move possible this summer

Juventus fans who are desperate for their club to hang on to Paul Pogba shouldn’t be happy with his agent this morning. Just days after admitting that he’d already started negotiation with Real Madrid, Mino Raiola stoked the Pogba transfer fire even more today.

Today Raiola chose to focus his comments on Manchester United. He called a potential Pogba return to the Red Devils a “fascinating option” which will only whip their hordes of fans into a frenzy. Pressure will begin to mount immediately on the Premier League club to make a strong bid for the French midfielder.

At this point, it’s pretty obvious what Raiola’s motivation is. He wants to start the largest bidding war he can for his client. Clearly Pogba’s camp is of the opinion that he’s outgrown Juventus and they want to secure a move away this summer. The only way to make sure that can happen, is to help the Serie A club receive an insanely high transfer fee for their most valuable player.

After all, Juventus aren’t under any real pressure to part with their most talented midfielder. Their preference would be for Pogba to continue his development under their watchful eye. Raiola and company know that the only way to have Juventus approve of letting go of Pogba, is to secure them a king’s ransom from another club.

That’s why Raiola has already talked up potential moves to Real Madrid and Manchester United within the last week. I suppose you should count on him publicly commenting on the chances of a transfer to Barcelona or PSG within the next few days. He’ll do everything short of holding a public auction for Pogba before the transfer saga is complete.

Don’t forget that Raiola has a lot of motivation to engineer a transfer for his client. Firstly, he’s going to make a ton of cash when Pogba receives his new contract. Agents receive a commission based on the signing of a new contract, and Pogba will almost certainly demand a new deal as part of his move to a new club.

Raiola’s motivation extends beyond money though. He wants to get his name in the tabloids as much as he can to increase his notoriety around the globe. If he can show that he’s engineered a bidding war that results in a record bid for his client, it should help him to acquire several more superstars as clients. That could be where Raiola will really reap the benefits of this deal.
