Tottenham are looking to sign AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen. The 22 year old was the leading scorer last season in Eredivisie and they are keen on him.

Tottenham and AZ Alkmaar continue to haggle over the cost of taking want away striker Vincent Janssen to White Hart Lane.  It is the third bid that the Dutch club have rejected as Spurs have failed again to produce an acceptable offer.

AZ Alkmaar want €20 million (£16 million) for Janssen who was the top goalscorer in Holland’s Eredivisie last season.  It is thought that the player is keen to join Spurs but the Premier League must increase their offer.

Despite receiving three improved offers so far, AZ Alkmaar’s Technical Director Max Huiberts is unimpressed with Spurs.  “The difference between supply and demand is too great” was Huiberts’ response to the latest offer.

Spurs initially offered £8 million plus £2 million in add-ons before improving their offer to a flat £10.1 million fee.  The latest offer was £10.7 million but Spurs were proposing paying this over a three year period.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is particularly interested in signing Janssen to give Harry Kane support up front.  Pochettino was reported to take a personal scouting trip to watch Janssen play for the Netherlands against the Republic of Ireland recently.  Having already signed Victor Wanyama from Southampton for £11 million, Pochettino feels that he needs to strengthen his team further by acquiring the striker plus other targets.

Vincent Janssen has had a breakout season for AZ Alkmaar.  Having played for two seasons in the Dutch second tier, the 22 year old started his first Eredivisie season at Alkmaar with a flourish.  In his 32 games, he scored 27 times and finished as the division’s top scorer.

Such a successful season was not lost on Netherlands coach Danny Blind and he gave the striker his international debut against France in March.  His first start, in his second game, against England led to his first international goal.  Janssen has 5 caps to date and already has notched 3 goals.

It appears that Janssen wants to move to Spurs and they are the only team bidding at present.  West Ham and Wolfsburg are reported to be in the frame and could make a move.  Janssen has spoken to Spurs and Wolfsburg but it appears that the Premier League is the desired option.  De Telegraff newspaper is reporting that Wolfsburg have also made an offer but that too was rejected by AZ Alkmaar.

Both club and player are keen to get the issue resolved as soon as possible.  AZ Alkmaar report back for pre-season training on Sunday but Janssen’s involvement with the Netherlands means that he is not required to report until next Wednesday.  Spurs seem to be the nearest to matching the valuation whilst other clubs are enquiring without backing that interest up with a firm offer.

Having been rebuffed three times, and heeding the words of AZ Alkmaar’s technical director, it is to be expected that Tottenham will increase their offer and finally close the deal.  Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to sign Janssen as soon as possible to avoid losing out.  AZ Alkmaar know they have a saleable commodity, who they know isn’t staying at the club, and are willing to wait for the right offer.
